Fort Hood
This story out of Fort Hood is horrifyingly sad. Whatever end of the political spectrum you are on, this is the definition of a tragedy. Condolences to all the families of the victims. One of the general's involved, General Casey, has said that, “It would be a shame -- as great a tragedy as this was -- it would be a shame if our diversity became a casualty as well.” Look I understand diversity in the military and with the Islamic faith viewed with skepticism by some. I don't think it is right at all to portray all Muslims as radical extremists or terrorists. But this case is different. Major Hasan was a terrorist. He did kill innocent Americans and committed a crime. Diversity and everything has to be pretty low on the list of priorities in this situation. Why are we more worried about offending other people instead of helping the victims of this shooting and helping the families get through this tragedy. Seems backwards to me.

It does seem backwards. I mean people lost there lives and regardless of who the individual was they should be critisized as anyone else would. Where I do feel bad is when people from the Middle East are automatically picked on based on there origins. There not all terrorists, I think thats wheat he was refering to. His background shouldn't play a major role in the crime. People should be focusing on him a lone not where he came from.
ReplyDeleteagreed they need to focus on what and why this happened not his background alone
ReplyDeleteA friend of my is in the national guard and he was on duty when this happened. He was telling me how the entire base was on high alet because they couldn't confirm if this was in isolated incident or some sort of terrorist attack. This was a real sad occurance but unfortunately it didn't shock me, I am all to used to these types of things. It's a sad state of affairs.
ReplyDeleteTiffany, I do agree to an extent. However, I think everyone in the country heard "Muslim" and a massacre and assumed he was a terrorist. And in this case he was. In general, it's not fair I agree completely. But every time we seem to take a baby step forward it is like we take 2 giant ones back.
